  Born in 1887 in Langres, in eastern France, he moved to Paris in 1908 to study at the School of Decorative Arts. He made his first exhibition in 1910 at the Salon des Artistes Français. He was the student of Fernand Cormon. Then he teached to other artists from 1911 to 1943. He won a lot of medals and prices ( médaille d'or des artistes français, 1925 - médaille d'or at the exposition universelle of 1937 - etc.. ) His paintings are in a lot of Museum worldwide including : Musée des beaux-arts d'Annecy, Institut d'art de Chicago, Musée d'art Dahesh de New York, Musée d'art et d'histoire de Langres, Musée des beaux-arts de Tourcoing, Musée des beaux-arts de Saint-Étienne, etc...
